education programs
Did you know JCHS has education programs designed for all age ranges? We will work with your organization to create a customized lesson and animal encounter specifically for your objectives. Keep scrolling to find out more!
SCHOOL GROUPS
We believe that education is extremely important and have developed numerous lesson plans to teach a variety of objectives. We can also create a brand new lesson based on your objectives. Depending on the size of the class, we can visit your school, or we can plan a field trip for your students to visit our buildings. Lessons can be developed for all abilities. Below are some examples of what we have done in the past:
CLASSROOM VISITS
We bring our sweetest pets to visit the classroom for a break during testing or as a reward after testing.
CLASSROOM VISIT WITH LESSON
Topics covered include pet safety, how to care for a pet, jobs in the animal field, etc.
HIGH SCHOOL DESTRESS VISIT
During study hall or any free time, we set up a petting station for students to come and relax/decompress.
ASSEMBLIES
Dog Bite Safety: This interactive presentation is a favorite of schools and students preschool-6th grade.
Humane Operations: What it means to prevent animal cruelty. Modified for 6th grade – adult.
FIELD TRIPS
We have accommodated up to 60 students at a time and set up learning stations throughout the rooms of the shelter. The students rotate through stations set up throughout the building that cover topics related to the age group interests i.e. Medical Room – see how we keep our pets healthy with preventatives and treatment; TNR – students learn importance of spay/neuter in neighborhood cats and see a demonstration; Enrichment with the Dogs – make an enrichment treat for the dogs to eat; Dog Interaction, Cat/Kitten Interaction Room – read to the kitties, Humane Operations, County Dog Warden, Veterinary Clinic. The options are endless.
