Surgical Aftercare Instructions

Here are a few Surgical Aftercare Instructions that we strongly recommend you follow through with  while your pet is healing at home…

KEEP YOUR PET INDOORS – Don’t let them get too hot or too cold.

  RESTRICT YOUR PETS ACTIVITY
– No running, jumping, playing, etc. for the next 5 to 7 days.

CHECK THE SURGICAL SITE OF YOUR PET DAILY – for the next 2 to 3 weeks.
Remember that minor swelling, redness & bruising is totally normal.
If you notice extreme swelling, drainage or odor – please call JCHS or your nearest ER Vet!

YOUR PET CAN HAVE A SMALL AMOUNT OF WATER ONCE YOU GET THEM HOME – or ice chips!

YOU CAN GIVE YOUR PET FOOD AFTER 6:00PM THIS EVENING!

Start by feeding your pet half of the amount of food you would normally give them.
If they are handling small portions well – you can begin to feed them as usual.
Some vomiting may occur – but should not happen for more than 24 hours!

DON’T ALLOW YOUR PET TO LICK OR CHEW ON THEIR SURGICAL SITE
– for the next 2 weeks.
If you think licking & chewing will be an issue – we have e-collars for sale!

YOUR PET CANNOT BE BATHED OR GO SWIMMING
– for the next 10 to 14 days.
However, it is important that you keep their surgical site clean & dry!
If necessary, you can clean their surgical site with mild soap and water.
Do not apply any ointments or salves to their surgical site.

DO NOT GIVE YOUR PET ANY MEDICATION
– unless you’re directed by a Veterinary professional.

PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO CONTACT US IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS!
