Responsible Pet Ownership Course

This program will emphasize the owner’s responsibilities toward the pet and the community. The class will cover the following subjects:

· JCHS and the provided services

· Proper Care

· Animal Behavior and socialization

· Owner Liability

· Ohio Laws

· Humane Agent Law Enforcement

· Cruelty Law (section 959)

· Rabies virus and animal bites

· Pet ownership responsibilities.

This class also can have certain citations dismissal after arrangements have been made with the County and Municipal Courts.

Citation and/or charges may be dismissed for the following:

Misdemeanor Charges: Minor Misdemeanor to Misdemeanor 4

Registration of animals

Failure to display Tags

Unlawful tags

Animals at Large

Allowing the accumulation of animal feces or urine

This class may also be required by the court if a person is charged with animal cruelty and they will be permitted to own animals in the future.

How it will work?

After receiving a citation or charges, the defendant has to appear in court as directed on the citation or letter from the court.

Class participants must pre-register in person for the class at Jefferson County Humane Society a maximum of thirty days before class or a minimum of one week before the date of class.
(a class may be cancelled due to no registration)
